Random post of randomness [21 Jul 2008|06:47pm]
[ mood | lethargic ]

So yeah, I've been really, really zonked the last week or so and haven't posted anything, anywhere in a while. This is partly due to the fact that I've been adjusting from the "unemployed slacker" sleep schedule to a "responsible adult" sleep schedule. Since I live so close to work, I might be able to get away with sleeping in an extra 15 minutes. But we shall see. Also of note, I will no longer be on AIM during work. If you wish to harass me during the work day, I will be on gmail chat, and it's fine for you to poke me that way.

And now I shall write about things I did recently, in no particular order.

I saw The Dark Knight on Saturday. Me and D caught an afternoon showing, and the place was still freaking packed. Needless to say, the movie was excellent and exceeded my expectations in every way. I won't get into spoilers, since there's already a lot of that floating around already. But I will say that if you're thinking about seeing it, go see it.

I also watched Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog (and apparently it's not available at the website anymore, so good luck to whoever wants to see it!). All I have to say is that it rocked, and Joss Whedon is a stinking bastard. That's all.

Einstein Brothers Bagels have amazing bagels. They're pricey, but the Dutch Apple bagel is a total flavorgasm.

Other random things I did:

- Reread Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Forgot that the mice guys decided to use Bob Dylan lyrics as the question to which 42 is the answer. I hadn't read it since high school, so this was way fun.

- Read bits and pieces of one of the Dalai Lama's books. Decided that Tibetan Buddhism probably isn't my thing. There's some good shit in there though.

- Reinstalled RO, bought 30 hours, logged in and died twice.

- Reinstalled MIRC and whined at former RO guildmates for advice. Now I just have to find this mythical ice dungeon they speak of and hope I don't get my face owned. I used to dual box with my girl account buffing my main, but I don't really want to go there because that costs money. I might consider such a venture if I decide to take a break from WoW, but that probably won't happen until right before the expansion (if at all).

- Speaking of expansion, the NDA has been lifted and the Beta is out! Sadly, I did not get a beta key, although I did opt in for one. I hear there are several phases of testing where they add more and more people to test their server. I hope to get a key in one of the later phases to test out the awesomeness.

- Today is the first actual day I did any work at work. They installed the crap I needed, and gave me a crash course on how not to fuck up on a Mac. Using the Mac so far has been surprisingly easier than I remember. We'll see how that goes.

That's all for now. Time to go die to Brutallus. T_T

Finally back from hopping airplanes and running like a crazy person around the country.

My sister's wedding was lovely, but you could definitely see the Evangelical influence, especially with my sister repeating "and I will submit myself to you..." during the ceremony. *headdesk* Despite the glaring gender bias in the vows, it went well. Even the 2 and a half year old flower girl made it down the aisle.

The reception was pretty typical. Food was good. Bar had good booze. I can't complain. I found that I cannot do the electric slide to save my life.

Other highlights of the weekend include playing mini-golf with some friends and partaking in wonderful pizza at Gino's.

And lastly, the world just got less funny. Rest in peace, George Carlin. May you look down on us from that CNN in the sky and laugh at the stupid shit your fellow man is doing.

I enjoyed much of my weekend. It was restful and I managed to relax and forget about stupid shit. I had fun on Friday, wishing Tina a happy birthday.

I also watched a lot of South Park. I got through seasons 1 and 2, and started on the 3rd. This is seriously some of the best shit ever. I also wrapped up season 2 of Supernatural, and it seems that I will be able to get my grabby hands on season 3 quite soon.

And I've also decided that I really want the Elite Kurzick Armor for my mesmer. (I might get the normal version too. Or just the chestpiece. Omg it's so cute.) It looks like a weird cross between an 80s prom dress and Ren Fest garb, so I'm totally down with that. I think I want to dye it red.

Only problem is that I already went through the Luxon stuff to get skank armor on my elementalist. Thusly, I had to dump all my Luxon points and go questing in Gothland (omg, I hate that fucking cathedral).

Bwuh. I've also moved my news links and ranting about stupid people here. I thought that was a better place for it.

Gay marriage ban overturned in California.

This is...utterly amazing news.

But still, the fight for equality is far from over. Predictably, religious and socially conservative groups are getting ready to put a measure on the November ballot that would seek to make the ban a part of the state's constitution, however, Governor Schwarzenegger has said that he "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

It's finally looking very good for California. For a while there, it's been a see-saw between banning and unbanning for some time. Hopefully, this will make it very difficult for another ban to come down again.

Now most news sources believe they must give two sides to every story, because in medialand, there are two and only two sides to every story. One is impossible and five is right out. Of course the article I linked had a quote from one of the justices saying that he thought this sort of thing should be decided by the voters.

Interesting. If we left moral and civil liberty issues up to the voters, would we have ever abolished slavery? Would we have allowed inter-racial marriages? Would women have gotten the chance to vote? Sometimes there is no such thing as being "fair and balanced" on an issue. Sometimes it's just the people who are being just and fair versus the people who are afraid of disturbing the status quo.

It's official. The Vatican says it's ok to believe in aliens.

Funes said that ruling out the existence of aliens would be like "putting limits" on God's creative freedom.

Kinda makes god sound like a frustrated screenwriter, doesn't it?

In the UK, some crazy fucker dressed up as Darth Vader smacked a couple of "Jedi" around with a metal crutch.

Yes. I said Jedi.

The two cousins and Barney Jones' brother, Daniel, set up the Church of Jediism, Anglesey order, last year. Jedi is the faith followed by some of the central characters in the "Star Wars" films.

Please. Take a shower and introduce yourself to a female that is not related to you, for the love of god. But damn, a couple of cooks getting beat up by another cook with a metal crutch is just golden.

And in Japan, world capitol of Crazy Shit™,a new solar powered bra is unveiled. So instead of buying batteries like the rest of the world, you can power your ipod with your underwear, provided that you never wash it. I feel nothing more needs to be said here.

FINALLY!! Some nice weather!! (even though it's rainy today and stuff) It was nice and sunny yesterday which makes me feel happy. It finally feels like spring and I'm not looking at the forecasts nearly expecting to see snow.

Good weather puts me in a mood for lulz, so I've gone out in search of cheap giggles. Here are but a few.

John Hagee, some nutcase televangelist that my mom used to watch every day, says sorry for referring to the Catholic church as "The Great Whore" among other slightly creative insults.

Apparently he got it through his thick head that his douchebaggery wasn't helping McCain, whom he endorsed some time ago. What I don't get is why? You all worship the SAME. GOD. But I'm sure his apology was motivated by political reasons and he's not actually sorry at all but please don't stop sending in those donations!!!

Also, Microsoft has no fucking clue why corporations aren't "upgrading" to Vista. I suggest the good folks at Microsoft stop sniffing glue and actually try to *use* their OS on a computer that isn't top of the line. Here's a hint: Companies don't want to spend the extra cash to upgrade all their hardware just to run a shitty OS.

And lastly, but totally not least, Some doctors in Finland grew a new jawbone for a guy using his own stem cells. Man I love science.

When they had enough cells to work with, they attached them to a scaffold made out of a calcium phosphate biomaterial and then put it inside the patient's abdomen to grow for nine months. The cells turned into a variety of tissues and even produced blood vessels, the researchers said.

So this guy was pregnant with his own new jaw. So he now has the dubious honor of saying that he gave birth to part of his face. This is absolutely amazing. SUPPORT STEM CELL RESEARCH. That way if your arm gets ripped off by wild gorillas, they can just grow you a new one.

Aaaand that's enough blathering from me now. u.u

It's been a good day so far, despite the total snoozefest of a department meeting we had today. It was very informative, and my notepad is filled with crude pen sketches of dragons.

Also, we found out there's going to be a Photoshop conference in Vegas this September. There is a vague possibility that I could get to go! Must plot and plan more. Mwahaha.

That is all for now. Might update later since I haven't gotten a chance to read any weird news today. 8D

Happy May 1st all. Let's be happy and celebrate the end of winter. Sorta. They're still talking about possible snow flurries this weekend, which would be full of suck, but I think they're just messing with our heads at this point. But we shall see.

Case of the mondays [28 Apr 2008|11:45am]
[ mood | aggravated ]

Damn, I've completely got a bad case of the Mondays today. I'm currently running with the attention span of a five-year-old, as evidenced by a detailed discussion on zombie lolcats with [info]joyeuxnoel.

When I went to check the weather on MSN.com, I was greeted with this lovely headline off to the side: "Spring snow in parts of Alaska, Minnesota"

So now Alaska has migrated to Minnesota and brought snow with it. Fuck you Alaska. Just fuck off and die.

Things and stuff [27 Apr 2008|01:40pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

It's been a quiet weekend. I caught up on some much needed sleep and touched up my roots with my usual light blonde. I also figured out how to fill my power steering fluid resevoir in my car, so it driving is no longer an upper body workout for me. I'm sure I have a leak in there somewhere, but the mechanic couldn't find one last time I was in. I guess I'll keep filling it and having them look whenever I get the oil changed.

I also braved going into WalMart today for a few things. I really, really, really loathe going into WalMart. The entire store is laid out like one huge clusterfuck with racks of shit blocking the aisles, and carts full of unwashed children making navigation neigh impossible.

I only go to WalMart for two reasons: if they're the only place in town that has something I want, or if it would save me the hassle of making a million stops at different stores. It's an annoying place, but they do have everything, including the kitchen sink. So I quickly gathered up all the crap I needed and bolted for the nearest register.

I had a discussion with my mother on Friday and booked my flights for June. Fortunately, I was able to find reasonable fares that fit everyone's schedule. I also obtained my Grandma's address so that I can send her a mother's day card. I had a whole rant typed up about my Grandma's current situation, but I really don't feel like finishing it. She's a sweet lady and she doesn't deserve what's happening to her. I think the best thing to do is simply send cards, letters and pictures, because I know that would make her happy. I can get all the revenge I want against my asshole of an uncle once she's passed. But for now, I will remain courteous and respectful.

Lastly, I've been following this uber-wanktastic thread over on the Wiccan LJ community. I've been able to deduce two things from reading this. 1. Santeria = bad, because Hollywood is perfectly capable of depicting this religion accurately. 2. Anyone who disagrees with anyone on a "pagan" issue is clearly A. a Christian or B. spouting hate-speech.

This thread delivers.

[ mood | drained ]

I've been such a slacker about journaling. This week has already been nothing but non-stop rush, with a long list of nitpicky jobs to address. I've finally got a chance to catch my breath today, although I'm still drooping after my third cup of Earl Grey and two cans of diet Mountain Dew. I really hope I don't end up sick after this bought of stress. It seems like my immunity gets even more shitty when I'm under a lot of stress.

But before I say anything else, I must link a very important health notice. Guys? You really need to jerk off more. It's for your health. Please look after yourselves.

I had a great raid last night and got me an angel head on a stick staff. I need to post new pics of my character because I look pretty badass in all my raid gear.

I'll post more when I don't feel quite so run down. I've had a rant in the works for the last few days, but I haven't been able to finish it. >.>

[ mood | hungry ]

It's Friday. I haven't been very active online the last few days because I've felt like shit and I've actually been busy at work.

Yesterday, I made apricot nut bread for my department, since it was my turn to bring in snacks. The recipe totally rocks and is so light and fluffy. As a bonus, I used Splenda instead of sugar and no one could tell the difference. Mwahahaha.

Randomly, I thought this was cute.

Short entry, but I cannot brain today. I has teh dumb.

I am getting really fucking sick of the weather here. It's cold and windy outside, although I did brave a trip to the grocery store because I really, really needed an huge fucking can of Amp (it's almost a liter. It's reeeaaally huge o.o). I'm usually not the type to really mope and whine about things like seasonal affective disorder, but the lack of decent weather this late in the season is really affecting my mood lately. I find myself more easily annoyed by things and irritable in general. I'm hoping this will pass when we get more sunshine.

Last Night's Raid )

I'm also in the process of looking for an appropriate dress to wear to my sister's wedding. I've decided to attend after all, especially since my parents are paying for both me and Eric to fly out. Score.

The first frustration I have is that most of the clothing in stores right now is just... ugly. It seems like a weird hybrid between the 70s and 80s. I walked into one of my favorite stores last night and found stuff like this everywhere. Perhaps some women are able to pull off wearing these styles, but almost everything looks terrible on me.

So I've been looking around online for something a little off the beaten path. I'm looking for something *slightly* goth-ish without screaming Hot Topic. I rather like this dress but the sizing is a little weird and the price is a bit high for my liking. No matter what size I get, I'll end up having to take it in a little, due to my lack of endowment in the boob department. I've also toyed with the idea of making my own, but my sewing experience is limited to alterations and repairs. I'm not sure I could make something from scratch without screwing it up.

That said, if anyone has any sites to recommend, I would totally love you long time. Random googling isn't getting me very far.

Oh well, still plenty of time to look and I've yet to hit up Mall of America. We'll see how this weekend goes.

I can't believe I just drank nearly a liter of energy drink and I still feel out of it. o.o

WoW post [04 Apr 2008|02:09pm]
We had a lovely surprise at work today. When I walked in, an IT guy was in the cube next to mine, hooking up a bitchin' 22" widescreen monitor. He was pimping out the whole design department. He also popped in more RAM, bringing my workstation up to a very nice 4MBs. It's nice to know that all our griping about slow computers actually got to someone's ear.

Dear Mother Nature: Four inches of snow on my car this morning is NOT a funny April Fool's joke. Please to be making with the springtimes, kthx.

Also, I'm looking for some sort of streaming radio to listen to at work. It needs to be something that works with WinAmp, as I'd rather not have to download anything weird onto my workstation. Does anyone have any sites to recommend? I wouldn't mind paying a small (like $5 small) subscription fee if it's something really kickass. I like all types of music except Country or Rap.

I thought about typing more, but I've had a rather crappy day. I'll just leave it at that.

I saw this link and just had to pass it along. I swear, nothing is sacred. People will have sex with anything now days, even picnic tables.

Now. I have just one question.

HOW IN THE HOLY FUCK DO YOU SCREW A PICNIC TABLE?!?!

I hope it was of the plastic variety as opposed to wood. Just think about it. Splinters.

Ok, I think I just squicked myself. >.>;

The WoW 2.4 patch is out today, along with the new raid content. We still haven't downed Illidan, which is sort of disappointing, but I'm also looking forward to new things in the game to explore with everyone. I'll probably do another WoW-binge this weekend while watching more Supernatural. 8D
